Time to Head back: Anuradhapura to Colombo to Pune

We woke up quite fresh today, after a comfortable ten hours sleep. A long day was lined up for us - first a train to Colombo, then 2 flights to Mumbai and then by road till Pune.

For once we didn't have an early start. We got up at 7, had breakfast of eggs bread and fruits. Our train to Colombo was at 10:20. Surprisingly the first class reserved wasn't air conditioned, I mean the third class reserved to Ella was much better. Maybe they have special trains running on that route, considering that it is popular amongst both locals and foreigners. Journey was hot initially, but it got cooler as we headed south. It had been raining in Colombo

At Colombo station, we found out about the cloak rooms, and left our backpacks there. Looked dicey to me, but took the chance. Thankfully we did get our bags back, and whole thing just costed us just 120lkr.

Had heard about this "House of Fashion" so decided to spend couple of hours there shopping, before heading to the airport. The tuk tuk fellow on our way back to Colombo Fort, tried to act smart - he took us to some other place, some bumblepetty station. We kept wondering on the route he is taking, nothing looked familiar and finally when he stopped at some isolated, ill-lit  place, indicating that this is it - I completely lost it. I yelled at him nicely, made him re start the meter and got to Fort Station - This time tracking the route on the GPS.
We collected our bags, took bus 187 to airport, as suggested by folks there. This one ended up being a mini bus and took 600 including 200 for bags.

For an International Airport, this one was very inconvenient for us. Since we had an early morning flight, checkin counters weren't open yet. There were no food stalls at this part of the airport. Ishu had bananas n juice. We had some bun, biscuits n nescafe [which fortunately I was carrying for our earlier train journey]. Ishu slept and we waited the entire night. Next our flight got delayed, and we ended up missing our connecting flight. After a couple of anxious hours, this thankfully worked in our favour as we requested airlines to book us for Pune instead, which they did.

Back home after a lovely trip. Pizza time now :-)
